Clothing choices are very important in achieving those portraits you love. Think simple. Avoid large logos and extraordinary patterns (you and your loved ones should be the focus). The clothing you choose should compliment both your family members and the environment in which the session takes place.
Babies are best photographed in nothing or wrapped within a blanket wearing only a diaper. Newborn’s parents should have handy a black turtleneck or black, long sleeved top so that they become a backdrop for their baby while holding them for certain photographs. Please note: Newborns are best photographed within the first 10 days of birth. If you are interested in newborn captures, please contact me with your due date and then contact me again (as soon as possible) after your child’s birth to secure a session time.
For child sessions, let your child’s personality shine through with hats, scarves, ties, pettiskirts, boots and other great elements that add color and texture.
Families look great in jeans or khakis and coordinating tops. Coordinating does not necessarily mean matching. Complimentary tones is the ticket. A good rule of thumb is to choose outfits for the family as if you were creating one outfit. ~ That said, black tops are an exception to the rule. Everyone can wear black and it doesn’t look too “put together”. It is classic, slimming and looks great in photographs.
